Hi Guys,

so currently Im building a gaming pc and as anyone expects, it needs an OS

So I'm currently thinking of buying a windows 10 pro for about $100 but then I saw windows 10 Education license being given at the university Im currently In (FREE).

I'd like to ask your opinion of which one to get? Im a bit reluctant with getting the free one since I don't know much about education version (like it might come with some shady limitations).

Thanks!

The education version is the same as Windows 10 Enterprise. My friend used it on a build. No limitations.

Also, do check out the Microsoft Reddit thread, you can get keys for Windows 10 fairly cheap there.

When I was in college they gave us a bunch of windows licences for free because it was paid for with our semester of classes. They were full licenses and no strings attached. However that was about 5 years ago, so I am not too sure what has changed over the years. I would say buy a copy just in case the free one doesn't work.

Well, if it really is similar to enterprise (which i think has the most feature) then I'll probably get it ... Thanks for the advice on the windows keys :) i'll check it out if the education version doesn't work.

So there's a possibility that the license key expire?

Usually the Free school licenses are unlimited 'home'-like editions (education licenses, which feature most stuff home has), but are meant for the students to use the duration of their school. After that they should stop using it. Of course I say should, because Microsoft doesn't actively shut down these licenses.

with this handy chart you can see what you do and don't get :)

TL;DR: you're missing cortana and getting features like applocker and windows to go :)
