Posted March 13, 2017 One of my buddies is looking for a camera, he is tossing up between the Nikon D3400 and the Panasonic G7. He will be doing a lot of event photography as well as some video recording. With both cameras he will have to work off the stock kit lens provided. Preferably just provide information on which camera would be better for his use case. Feel free to ask any more questions. Thanks in advance I suck a typing, preparw for typos. Posted March 13, 2017 I guess the 18-55mm kit lens? Nikons video autofocus is not the best, but image quality is stunning. I mean you can record footage with decent quality and manual focus, autofocus produces quite a bit of noise, especially when being in a quiet environment. Microphone quality is ok though. (I'm a user of the d3300, changes to the 3400 are minimal afaik) About the panasonic - no idea, I'd have to research a lot before goving a statement. If he uses primarily the camera for stills, I'd get the d3400. Nikons pro is that you get more lenses than for Panasonic EDIT: One small important info: nikons low light performance is quite above average in this segment, so this'd help him quite a bit GUITAR BUILD LOG FROM SCRATCH OUT OF APPLEWOOD - Ryzen Build - R5 3600 | MSI X470 Gaming Plus MAX | 16GB CL16 3200MHz Corsair LPX | Dark Rock 4 MSI 2060 Super Gaming X 1TB Intel 660p | 250GB Kingston A2000 | 1TB Seagate Barracuda | 2TB WD Blue be quiet! Posted March 13, 2017 It wouldn't really matter I don't think. The D3400 probably has slightly better lowlight wich could be useful for events where lightning often can be limited. Posted March 13, 2017 Just to provide some additional info. My only concern would be crop factor, otherwise in the hands of people who know how to take photos both cameras will perform well.
