Posted March 12, 2017 I'm a 3D artist and currently running into severe limitations with my 2013 imac, so I'm thinking of switching to PC for rendering purposes. I have a relatively small budget for a this kind of project of about 2300 USD. So far i have designed a build using xeon processors, a big tower case, and a GTX 1080, (I'm looking maybe using a AMD RYZEN 1800X prosessor instead of xeon.) EDIT: Here is the build I'm currently looking at https://pcpartpicker.com/list/
Posted March 12, 2017 Go for a 1800 or 1800X processor. Newer and (probably) quicker. Do you have a pcpartpicker link put together? Try using the PSU Tier List! Ryzen will give you better clocks for the price but if your programs want 10-12 cores you would be better off with a Xeon build. Also, if your programs are not GPU accelerated or hardly you would be better off getting a very cheap GPU like a GT 610 and a much more expensive Xeon processor with 14+ cores.
