PC shuting down during gaming

Go to solution Solved by carrickwater,

Thanks eveyone for your help. Think my gpu was overheating so I put the fan speed on the highest.

Works now

So a few days ago I bought an rx 470. When I play games like naruto storm 3 my pc does not shut down, but anytime I play graphically intensive games or raise the visuals to ultra on old games-like mafia II, my pc restarts like 5 minutes into the game. I changed the power supply from a crappy one to a bequiet 450w cause I thought that was the problem, but it does not seem to work.

These are my pc specs.

Dell optiplex 7010 with an i5 3470

4gb ddr3 ram

500gb hard disk

450w be quiet psu

Any help will be welcome. Thanks

Could you monitor the temperature of your GPU and CPU while gaming?

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Do this:

And make sure you do it by hitting the quote button at the bottom left of my post, and not the one inside the editor!

How do I do that please. I know you can use MSI AfterBurner or something like that

For GPU I think you could use afterburner and for CPU something like HWTemp would work.

This definitely sounds like CPU is overheating and thermal protection is kicking in. Try replacing the thermal paste on your heatsink and CPU.

Just download afterburner and then play some games. It will show the recent temps.

Not if the pc just shut itself down though :D

You might be able to use afterburner to put an overlay so that you can see GPU temps in the corner while gaming. Maybe try that.

ok. Afterburner for gpu and hw monitor for cpu. am going to monitor right now

Download heaven benchmark put it window mode to run on ultra preset at your resolution and then let it run with the Msi Afterburner on top, see how the temps rise up for the GPU, later do the stress CPU from CPU-Z also watching how the temps rise up, if any of the two go over 90C than it is thermal issue indeed if not it's something else.

You could also use speedfan, it logs temperatures automatically if you go into the settings and activate logging. No need to check your temps yourself.

Is there a way to overly cpu temps while gaming

Yes, there is an option for it in the Monitoring tab in Afterburner, scroll down through the list should be near the bottom. Just set it to show CPU1 Temperature.

dead island riptide at 1680x1050 ultra

Hmm, weird. I do play dead island riptide too on 1680x1050 on ultra but my gpu temps never go that high. I don't know if it is because of my gpu has MSI's own cooling or what. But I don't think 75C is bad thing. Maybe if it goes to 80C-90C you might have a problem. Also 54C is not bad either. My cpu temps go easily to 70C
