Replacing bad 990FX NOW!

Go to solution Solved by Cobalt Blue Watermelon,

I read a post on this yesterday, buy the Asus. It's build quality is superior and it's pretty much the bees knees with regards to features and build quality. From what I remember of the post, the Gigabyte boards, while stacked with features, are built nowhere near as well and aren't designed for the power an FX processor requires from the chipset. I will do my best to find the post and link it.

But yeah, go ASUS.

EDIT: Here is the link. The post you are looking for is #22 by TitusPrime. From what I understand this individual has owned each of the boards. His experiences may be anecdotal but it's probably the best insight you'll get on these boards from an owner. Thank God for internet history ^^.

I would personally go with the ASUS Board. I don't have much experience with AMD but i do know for a fact that the ASUS boards hold up well against the FX processors.

I highly doubt that seeing as the motherboard sends no power to the SSD, only signals, I'd get looking at your PSU if components are dying.

Have you heard of the (on-going?) issues of bent pins on the socket for Intel-based motherboards? They are bent from arrival (the cover wasn't even taken off yet), but AsRock is NOT willing to provide a replacement, saying it is due to the consumer improperly installing the CPU or what-not.

Wow. That's what I'm hearing amongst friends as well and they are running Sabretooths.

That's because Sabertooth on 990FX is the cheapest motherboard with no major bugs. The Gigabyte UD3 one for example can't run RAID at all even though it says so in the marketing. The Asus board you posted is ok, but not a great overclocker.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Nice find. Rarely are there users who have time with that many boards in a single chipset, other than pro reviewers. But, pros don't live with these boards. They review, then on to the next.
