Bottleneck?

So I really would like to get a 1080 ti but my question is should I get an i7 beforehand or should I get a 1080 ti first?

my current system specs:

i5 4570

ASrock PRO4 z97

16 GB samsung Memory

cx750m

I think your I5 would be ok, check you CPU usage when playing a game maxed out right now, and if its over than lets say 90 than it might bottleneck a bit.

a i5 will bottleneck your gpu severity depends on the game, get a i7 before getting a new gpu.

Yes, your CPU will bottleneck a 1080 ti in more CPU bound games, but it will still give a good improvement in games, so I guess get the 1080 ti first, then an i7.

Ok thanks for the help

I would say get the 1080 Ti now and replace the CPU later. The i5 may bottleneck the 1080 Ti but I find it easier to swap a CPU than a GPU

Edit: I should say the i5 will definatly bottleneck, but its going to be easier to find a good priced i7 within a couple of months than a 1080 Ti.  GPUs tend to stay higher priced, longer from what I have seen.

Probably the best answer.

Within a few months you'll be able to get a good i7 on Ebay, or find it markeddown if you you have a microcenter near you. If you do have a microcenter near you, if you get a compatible mobo with your CPU you can get $20-30 off, its a very nice deal.

Upgrade to the 1080 Ti. Hopefully Ryzen makes a huge hit in the coming months.

no one asked the most important question ... what resolution?

if you want to play 4k, the i5 will be fine for a while, if you want high refresh at 1080p then you should upgrade the cpu.

i5-6600k @ 4.5ghz || XFX RX-480 GTR || 16gb DDR4 || Lots of SSD's.
