Adding to this thread. Is thermal compound needed for an AIO cooler? Would it be pre applied? Does it come with a Cryorig A40 Ultimate?

Pretty much all ready to use coolers will come with TIM pre-applied. Things like standalone CPU blocks tend not to come with TIM pre-applied. For any CPU cooler, TIM is needed.

In relation to the thread, any TIM is fine. The difference between the best and worst, excluding liquid metal TIM, is only a matter of a few degrees C.

Assuming it's pre-applied, I shouldn't go out of my way to get some additional to out on?

Best regards, Mikkel

Nope. It never hurts to have a tube of TIM around in case you need to switch a cooler out or something, but there's no point in replacing the stuff that comes with your cooler.

You arent' going to notice any advantage to using one brand over the other if the heatsink is getting adequate clamping pressure against the cpu.

Should have stated originally in the post so people can help better. But all the mentioned suggestions will work

The question I asked was very straightforward. It doesn't matter that I had a i5. You're just looking to nitpick like you do on every post here.

Great stuff.  I've used both and they are pretty much equivalent.  Grizzly Kryonaut has a nice applicator built in to the dispenser and Gelid Extreme comes with a plastic applicator.

Grizzly Kryonaut is fantastic, pricey, but it's a very good paste.
