Will my GPU REALLY run on this?

Go to solution Solved by Lord Pantaloons,

What's the worst that could happen? It's not like it would explode or anything....

be prepared...be very prepared.

So, I found out about this months ago and only decided to care about it now, after I bought a new GPU. (Smart, right?) So my motherboard runs on a 20-pin instead of an actual 24-pin.

aju2e9u6.jpg The GPU I ordered was a 7750, and I know it can run on a 250 watt, but not sure it will run on a power supply with a 20-pin and no 24-pin.

8epyzagu.jpg The thing is, I'm not sure how much money I have left on my Debit card... I'm 12! I don't have a job! I couldn't want for a full rebuild in my PC. Now I'm concerned on whether or not a 7750 will run on a 20-pin motherboard. I guess I can ask me dad for money so I can buy a new power supply.. Or at least a 20 to 24 pin adapter... My PC has run on this 20-pin for YEARS! I've even overclocked my GT 620 to 820 MHz!

First off, 12 with a debt card?! Im 15 without one.

Anyway if you have all the parts why don't you plug it in and find out? I don't see why the power being supplied to the mobo should affect the GPU in any way except maybe the power in the PCIe lanes.

The most is can pull is 75w, that's what's supplied on the average mobo on an x16 slot. Hopefully that thing can provide it with a 20pin.

I will just suggest getting a new power supply regardless.

I don't have it yet, I might have it tomorrow, Wednesday, or even Thursday depending on how slow UPS is. I want to know beforehand so I don't run into issues and get frustrated.

You can get debit cards from 12 in the UK, you can't go overdrawn though.

Using that PSU is a surefire way to kill anything connected anywho. The +4 pin supplies the extra voltage which seeing as the 7750 pulls power solely from the PCIe slot is needed.

I believe the extra 4 pins gives the board extra power to supply the pcie with power. if you don't have that you are probably not going to be able to fully power your card, especially if it doesn't have a 6pin connector.

I wouldn't use that PSU

the extra 4 pins adds extra amps to the motherboard. so you may be lacking using a PCI-E GPU

atx-connector-20-24pin.jpeg

And running any PCI GPU on 250w is a sure-fire way to disaster

I've been running my GT 620 on my motherboard since February.... I've even overclocked it...

You mean you never worked for cash?

After leaving school I was working above the no-tax threshold but getting paid cash in hand by a friend. Come at me, tax man.

that card only pulls a max of 49W from the PSU thats fine, but if you where to upgrade to a 110W  + your system usage you would be over the 250w

If the power supply can't supply the load and its protection circuitry doesn't work(or it doesn't have any), the power supply will burn itself out - possibly taking out other components.
