Hi,

so I want to upgrade my current system from my HAF XB Evo to a new case to support water cooling. Please don't discuss whether I need water cooling.

Here is what I need:

  • ATX / E-ATX case
  • Horizontally aligned Motherboard (I don't want to stress the PCIe Slots)
  • Isolation to make it silent
  • Space for
    • at least 2x360 thick rads
    • intake/exhaust fans
    • pumps/PSU
    • several (3-4) SSDs
    • a Palit GTX 1080 GameRock
    • Corsair RM1000X PSU

So far I found the Thermaltake X5 since the X9 is really big. I did not find any good LianLi or CoolerMaster cases for my needs or fractal design for that matter.

Is there any good alternative to the Thermaltake X5 ?

Some sort of case labs. Not sure why you have to have the mobo oreintated that what if the cards will have blocks on them and they are screwed into the case they can't cause stress to the pci slots.

X5 is one of the only that will fit your wants.  Build could use an overhaul.

For some reason I just like the cube cases and easy access to mobo/gpu plus while installing there will be less stress on the pcie ports. But maybe you are right and I should start looking for a decent case even if it is tower at least as a comparable alternative to the tt X5.

What do you mean with 'build could use an overhaul' specifically?

2 360 rads it's a bit much. Along with a 1000 watt psu. Unless you're gonna run 4 cards.

Could get the corsair 740 and do a single 360 and 2 240's if you still want overkill. And it's the easiest case to build in. It get a 540 and lose one rad.

Well I calculated with 240mm per unit since I may want to OC and want a silent system. given that I need to cool a 7700k + 2 x GTX 1080 I thought 3x240=720 so I will go with 2 x360. is that wrong? I really like it silent. The 1000W PSU was since my last one was too weak and I was looking into getting 2xamp extremes which have a rediculus tdp plus some extra wattage so the fan can run silently since the PSU is not maxed out. The 540 looks really crowded with a pump in there.

Looking at the corsair 740 makes me wonder, is that case isolated against noises? I am not only talking about the fans but usually some vibrations occure and the isolation helps to keep those inside. It might be an option though, so thanks for recommending it.

Jays2cents (The "watercooling expert" of the youtubers) used a 360 and a 240 for two titan's which have a much higher TDP than the 1080... Also used the R7 1800x (so not much less than the 7700k)

Well if you at my 540 rig in the sig, I have 8 blocks in there. All my stuff is old and power hungry. I keep all my fans and pump at 40%, including my psu fan now.

At full load load the most I can see out of anything is low 50's. Normally high 40's if I have my heater off in my room. I only have 1 360 and 1 280.

Pump could easily go in the back.

Im only recommending different rads so you would have more case options.

A quality case wont normally suffer from vibration. Good pump mounts will also help with that.

I know this is just my personal feeling but jays build looks nice but if I look at it a little to long it looks crowded, pumps and tubes going next and over each other and that video did not state anything about noise. I personally like extremly silent builds, which is why I kinda dislike the haf xb evo because it lets all the noise out. Even 40% contant fan usage is somewhat annoying to me. Nice as a testbench but not really silent. So let's just say I want to go with a little overkill radiator setup.

I looked at all the corsair cases and the 540 in white is looking kinda nice but lacking the option of an additional radiator. The 740 has that room as you pointed out, however I really like the white design of the 540 and not the black design of the 740.

I guess a mid tower just does not offer enough depth to store 2x360 rads and a big tower is usually around 70cm in height, which annoys me. Leaving me with the cube cases again. I will keep on search but for now the Thermaltake x5 snow edition still looks like the best fit for my (I agree partly unnecessary) needs.

40% is a relative term. I'm using 6 2k rpm noctuas along with 3 other fans.  I could turn on zero fan mode on all but what i need. I don't need it dead silent for gaming as I don't game in silence.

Hopefully your psu has a zero fan mode up to 60% use.

I don't know exactly at what wattage or temp the PSU is starting but so far it looks good.

I just found the Be Quiet Dark base pro silver. I think this might be worth a look for me.
