According to the spec sheet, it just says a "6 pin".

So....picture of the box where it says that?

Well, either way you should return it. The TR2 is junk.

Check with other users online.

Would really be surprised that a cheap unit has cutbacks.

I don't think someone is going to lookup the PSU model online to check the specs while they're standing in a store

at that point you go by the "thermal giveth and thermaltake th away" rule.

"Brand new from Fry's Electronics"

I've been starting to distrust Fry's. I don't even know why I want to step foot in their stores (maybe just to get a fix on playing around with the electronics).

Let's put it this way, I bought a GTX 1080 from them. The website said new. I went two hours out of town to get it, because it was the only one that had it in stock (but there were other things to do so I just hit up my old stomping grounds). When I got back home, it was clearly an open-box item. They sold me an open-box item as new. At least the particular card I bought wouldn't fit and they couldn't know it was open box to begin with, so I returned it for a full refund.

After that incident, I just can't trust Fry's. Especially considering they just stack open-box items with the new ones. Who the hell knows why they were returned in the first place?

replace every occurance of fry's with amazon, same story...

why do people go there? well.. because it's cheap.

Yeah typically I wouldn't ever use a power supply like this, but my friend wanted his PC up and running that day and Fry's didn't have much of a selection. I'll recommend to him changing to a higher quality PSU in the near future, and something that's modular for better cable management.

The flipside though is I've never had a problem with Amazon. If I did, it's because I'm the one who didn't check to make sure I wasn't buying from some Chinese knock off company. Plus, I can't really put blame on Amazon if purchase wasn't fulfilled by them.

Fry's however is a brick and mortar retailer. They're also not any cheaper than Amazon (at least they'll price match). The only reason I would go there is if I need something now and I can't wait on two day shipping. So if they're sloppy like this, then I'm willing to just wait the shipping time. Or go to Best Buy if I don't need something computer related.

EDIT: To add to this, I buy stuff from Amazon regularly. Like more than a handful of times per month. So either I'm lucky, or statistically, Amazon does a excellent job (when they're the ones fulfilling the purchase).

the issue with amazon is that if you dont know what to look for, it can get really hard to find what is and is not the real source on amazon.

i've found an "intel" that sells the latest and greatest processors, pentium 2 engineering samples, and a bag of nuts and bolts.

It says on the page "Fulfilled by Amazon". Granted it's not large.

But again, if the quality of a brick and mortar is meh, then that's a problem. It just won't be worth my time to drive out there anymore.

Also what I'm trying to say is...

It's too much energy to get out and drive to a place if they suck than to order something online. I'd rather risk getting the Chinese knock off.

i'm the kind of person who buys computer parts at brick & mortar to avoid shipping issues, but i make damn sure to research everything ahead of time, and come in with a very specific shopping list.

I guess there's that too.

I'm also very specific about my hardware needs considering I don't like big towers. So my parts selection is limited to online purchases because nobody else has heard of mini-ITX.

i've gotten a great brick & mortar with alternate, i can literally walk in there, say "i need this specific stick of ram" and they'll have it roll out the warehouse for me in a matter of minutes.
