Hey there,

A month or so ago, I built a gaming PC for my little brother. I went out and bought these parts:

GPU: RX480 4GB Gigabyte

CPU: i3-6100

RAM: 8GB crucial DDR4 1.2V CL15 (CT8G4DFD8213)

MoBo: Asus H110M-D

PSU: a no-name 450W

HDD: WD blue 1TB

We have some really weird issues with this build. I tested Battlefield 1 performance and it was great. All settings Ultra and framerates were close to 60.

The thing is that, in every other game that my brother bought or had already, it fails spectacularly to play them. For example GTA V is only playable in low settings, and still it cannot achieve more than 45 fps average.

Same thing with Fallout 4. It only runs with lowest setting, and still has its glitches. Same with Wolfenstein old blood.

Drivers were installed through amd's official site.

Card was also tested with cryptocurrency mining software, and it performed great, with temperatures never exceeding 74C

What the heck have I done wrong?

*just to clear up future replies

I owned an i3-6100 before and this is not normal. I could get 35+FPS High-Ultra settings on it with my 290 in GTA V.

Yeah first thing to cross my mind is that this Power Supply is being faulty at providing the RX480 all the power it needs.

i know that the PSU is crap, but running mining software with max GPU allocation ran perfectly as expected without any issues with power.

Mining and gaming use different resources from the card, you may experience different results with one another.

*edit, have you disabled xbox dvr? if you use win10 that is important.
