5820k vs 7700k

If you're going for pure gaming, go with the 7700K with lower cores, but higher IPC / Overclocks.

If you're going for gaming + workstation/productivity, go with the 5820k. Should be able to reach nice overclocks with the hexacore too.

7700K by far, especially if you only care about gaming.

 

5 Ghz+ overclocks will require a delid though, to keep temps from going insane.

I would straight advise the 7700k but if you need more horse power on multi-threaded applications like rendering you gonna prefer the 5820k

7700k has a cheaper platform.

5820k is amazing. Easily overclocked to 4.5ish, and the X99 platform is fantastic. 

Keep in mind that X99 motherboards are more expensive though.
