Is there anyway to get data from a dead USB

CookieTheLabrador

Hi,

My Samsung USB has failed on me and has most of my school data. Is there a way to get the data back from a dead USB or am I fucked?

If it can't be detected it's gone usually it's gone unless you send it out for recovery. Most times they need to take the flash chip off the PCB and mount it in a holder or transplant it into a new drive for it to be recovered.

That's generally quite expensive though. It's not worth unless the data on it is really valuable to you.

You know what lasts longer than USB? Cloud storage. Google docs, for example. USB is great for transportation, but I wouldn't use it as a sole storage location.

Nothing that valuable, around 2hrs of work, not worth $275 recovery

It would cost closer to 800+ from my interaction with data recovery services. Anything that invasive it's super expensive.

Agreed, went to Harvey Norman, the place I bought it, and got a replacement for it
