The Ryzen 5 line-up is supposed to be released in Q'2 of this year. There is no information on pricing, but it is targeted as a lower-tier version of Ryzen so it should be cheaper.

the release of these lesser core CPU's are going to only further illustrate how far AMD is behind Intel. ie. you're more likely to run them at lower resolutions and AMD is relying on core count to carry them to acceptable levels of gaming performance rather than strong IPC and high clock rates

For their prices, they should be decent enough for gaming/other workloads. They will still be clocked below 4 GHz so don't expect them to match the 6700k/7700k, but they should be great alternatives to something like 6600k/7600k and other i3/i5 processors since they will beat any i3/i5 in rendering/compilations and in general CPU workloads outside of gaming.

Assuming the random issues get worked out, then they won't likely beat the 7600k/7700k (due to Kaby Lake's IPC and clockspeed advantages), however, the R3/R5 4c/4t and 4c/8t have the potential to beat the locked Kaby Lake SKUs.

A 4c/4t R3 is rumored to cost $120-$150 (depending on SKU), overclock that to 4.2ghz (which seems reasonable based on the R7) and you'll be beating the 7600. And most people (who don't get a 7600k) get a 7400/7500, which probably require a 3.7ghz/4ghz overclock respectively.

A 4c/8t R5 is rumored to cost $165-$200 (depending on SKU), overclock that to 4.5ghz and you'll be beating the 7700.

By the end of the year. Other than that we don't really have firm dates. It's the whole "hurry up and wait" strategy.

Pretty disappointed with many aspects of the Ryzen launch tbh.
