Oil in ssd?

So I bought a 240GB Intel 520 ssd in january and it just crapped out on me. It sucks but I'm not that bummed out because it was a ebay purchase. Anyways, I decided to open it up just to be a bit curious and there was a fairly good amount of oil on each of the chips in the drive as well as a lot of residue on the inside of the metal casing. Is this a common thing in ssd's? Just curious as I've never heard anything about this.

It could somehow be flux, but otherwise, that shouldn't be there.

Are there thermal pads them, they tend to leech oil out after a perlonged amount of time.

Looks like it might have been used in a mineral oil pc? That's my only other thought.

Damn well if that's the case then I hope that's not what did it in. I guess that's what I deserve for buying on ebay. Item history is non existent there.

My apt. is always dry and it was installed in an air cooled case. Plus its and oily consistency.

Yeah that's not normal as from my knowledge they are not conformal coated and that would be dry a short time after it was done.

Can you try wiping some of it off and seeing what color shows up the material you used to clean some of it up?

I just wiped it with a white cloth and its just clear. Can barely see it with my own eyes.
