You can boot your new motherboard off of your old systems drive. The OS will detect the new components and set up as it needs to, the new mobo won't change anything, however, you should install the new drivers that aren't automatically included with windows.

Can i use my old copy of windows for my new motherboard? If so do i have to buy another copy if i give away my other MB? Thats an extra 100 bucks i overlooked otherwise..

All the components are separate (run) but are linked together. Dont worry about it just make sure youve got your Sata cable in and set the boot drive order. Delete all the old MOBO files and you should be fine

dastardly.

Be sure to deactivate the copy on the old board BEFORE activating it on the new one.

Nah, don't do it, it will not duplicate your Windows copy ;)

With Windows 10, if you log into your Microsoft account with the old motherboard, I think it can activate the new board if you log in with the same account

This worked for me on my last build, I thought I was going to have to buy a new key, but once all setup and logged in I checked my info in windows and it had transferred my key to the new build.

I really need an answer. I am installing the mobo in a few minutes. But do I need a usb file of a windows copy or is it gonna detect windows from my SSD? Do I need to download a windows installation file to move to my usb? I do NOT have an install disk of windows.
