Is my GPU dead or is it probably something else?

TotallySpies

Hi LTTForum,

I'm having some issues with my PC and you are my last resort.

Whenever I Launch a Game this happens:

http://imgur.com/a/K83PL

I see this, then all my sound begins to mess up and it sounds like a vibrator is going off and then everything just freezes, the entire system.

My setup:

i7-2600k

ASROCK Z77 Fatal1ty Performance

Sapphire R9 280X Toxic

Corsair CX750M (I believe)

120GB SSD

1TB HDD

8GB RAM

Already did a clean install of windows, and drivers.

Alright, seems GPU related.

Can you somehow try using a different GPU?

Sadly I can not, thats why I want to make sure this is my GPU so I don't go and buy the wrong replacement part :(

I have never done anything to make my GPU different than the factory settings.

This is a good point, undo all overclocks if you have any and try again.

You could try buying any cheap video card in a close by Tech store, try to open a game or something on it and see if it helps.

Those are usually like $20

Ok, check all your connectors. And make sure the power supply is adequate (it seems you are not very sure about your PSU so have a look).

Is it the green labeled CXM corsair? In that case you might be unlucky.

Can you test with another PSU?

Unplug and replug all power connectors. ALL OF THEM

Just checked it's a CX750M. I've also never had issues but this just recently happened to occur.

It may be failing and not supplying clean/enough power to the GPU. See if you can find a spare PSU troubleshoot with.

The green labeled ones are bad PSU's, of course they work but they aren't of good quality.

But as @Epic_Nex said, uplug your GPU entirely and run your monitor through your motherboard.

Will do what @Epic_Nex said but how will replugging all the cables fix anything?

Good!

If you're lucky it might just be a loose cable or something :)

Just played on my intel hd graphics, and it just worked. I'm gonna try to find some spare PSU cables from the cx750m, first got to find the box tho..

Okay so we com most likely say it's GPU related by now.

But yes, try different PSU cables for the GPU. If it works, you're good to go. If not.. Well fuck.

Only found some XFX Cables, is it safe to try those on the Corsair? The cables are brand new..

I don't think they're compatible to begin with.. I wouldn't try it though.

Do you have another PSU?

Just hooked up my old PSU to the GPU only, jump started it with a cable from green to black on the 24-pin connector. Everything works fine now.. So I guess this GPU is already ded. Or it's just the PCI-e cable but I can't find a new one.

Try another PCIe input!

Try unplugging your GPU and use your iGPU. If it works, it's your graphics card.

This worked, but this would not rule out the PSU, since the PSU isn't delivering anything to the GPU and has spare energy..
