I'm pretty new to PC building for the most part, and I'm going to build my first gaming PC soon. Budget is around $2k to $3k. I already have all the parts chosen, and I was hoping for some comments or suggestions on how I could make it more powerful or cost-effective. Thanks!

Do you already have the GPU

Why not 7700k?

A h170 won't allow overclocking a K chip

Better cooler, and no need for thermal paste

With such an expensive build, you should definitely wait for Ryzen. it will give you MUCH better performance for less.

No, as I said, this is a planned build.

It isn't a 7700k? I made an edit to the list a while ago and changed the 6700k to a 7700k... must not have saved

Any suggestions as for mobo? I need a decent LGA 1151 motherboard.

I heard good things about the H50, so what would you suggest? And I thought thermal paste was always needed

GTX 1080 instead of 980Ti

Better AIO Cooler

No need for thermal paste

Z270 Motherboard + DDR4 + 7700K (or wait for ryzen, which you should do)

Just look at the list

it's a 6700K

Any Z270 motherboard will do. this one is a nice and cheap one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N2V0AHI/?tag=pcpapi-20

My friend had a 980Ti and it always served him well, so I figured I'd get one too. But you're probably right tbh

AIO cooler? Alright. What do you think of the NZXT Kraken X61? I've heard many good things about it

Alright then. Might as well save 7 bucks.

Hmm alright then. But aren't DDR3 and DDR4 basically the same? I've seen many people saying there wasn't much difference

The Portable Slice of Bread (N270, HAHAHA, 2GB)

Muffinator (C2D E6600, Geforce 8400, 6GB, 8X2TB HDD)

Toastbuster (WIP, should be cool)

Waiting for ryzen. Put the 7700k in there just because

Also, if I add a 1080, does it matter what manufacturer?

Not really, unless you care about overclocking and/or future liquid cooling

Definitely care about both. For certain gonna overclock, and I'm most likely gonna get a liquid cooler.

I would also suggest switching the Seagate HDD (which is a gen 1 in your build) to be one of their second gen drives. The first gen drives have been notorious for failure rates. I'll whip up a quick parts list for you based on what you have put in here and budget.

I don't know too much about liquid cooling, so most likely not. If I had help with it, maybe
