6600K fails prime95

I got my 6600K to 4.6 ghz with 1.3 vcore and it seemed stable in RealBench and I played a couple games. I threw on prime95 and after a few minutes, one of the cores will stop because of a fatal rounding error. Rounded to .5 and expected .4. I pushed the vcore up to 1.33 and I have the same issue. Should I continue to push the vcore or should I ignore it and revert to my "stable" 1.3.

temps are identical, both are in the 60s under full load

Note to self: i5-6600K, not Q6600

Spoiler

Then at some point, it becomes a question of your willingness to pump voltage into a 10+ year-old CPU until it breaks vs. your desire for MOAR POWERS!

My CPU is a year old and that doesn't answer my question.

Stick with 1.3v. Check to see if you're getting a consistent 4.6ghz

It was consistent at 1.3. So should I not worry about the prime95 error?

I'm sure you're fine. you could try increasing vcore to 1.35-1.38v if you'd like to try.

That was an edit on my part. Even after your comment, it hadn't clicked. The OP posted something about their CPU only being a year old, and as I was about to ask if I could borrow their DeLorean, it finally hit me that a 6600K is not a Q6600. Also, a Q6600 isn't going to hit 4.6GHz no matter how many volts you put through it.

Yeah, basically a "time to stop posting, dumbass" moment on my part. xD

I started at 1.37 and prime95 worked with no errors. I'll leave it up and if it works I'll see if I can get the same results with a slightly lower vcore. As for thermals, they went anywhere from 65-80 throughout the test and they maxed out around 85.

over the course of the next week play games and use the computer like you would normaly and THEN you'll know if the CPU is stable or not...i remember running Prime 95 and aida 64 for hours on end with no crash only to get battlefield 4 to crash on me twice only a few minutes in...stress test is good to see if you're ''ballpark stable''...real stability throughout is another story...you can run prime for 24hrs...and crash in the first game you load...lesson learned.

Hahaha happens to all of us from time to time ;)

Do you live on the East Coast of North America? If so simply blame the hour!

But let's be real. He wouldn't be able to take you back in time. His DeLorean certainly would have rusted by now.
