DisplayPort to VGA adapter half working?

So I bought a DisplayPort to VGA adapter a while ago (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=1DH-003U-00004) I think it's that one, and I'm only now using it with my ASUS 1070 and my second monitor (which is just an older TV) and while my computer recognizes that it's there, the monitor only says "Not Supported" The monitor works just fine with HDMI, but I'm using it for my PS4 which is why I need the adapter, and it previously worked just fine with a VGA connection on my old GT 420. Any ideas?

Using these sort of dongles is always a gamble since DP is digital and VGA is analog.

You'd generally need a more expensive active adapter to do the work, hdmi to VGA should work, I picked up this for my RX 480 and it's fine, though it's limited to 1280x1024 outside of doing custom resolutions for my CRT
