Is the LGA 1150 still worth getting?

Is it still worth getting the LGA 1150. Tell your answer and explain why.

I'm doing only 1080 gaming since I don't have a 4k monitor.

LGA1150 is serviceable - 4670k user here. Combined with a 1070 or 480 it kicks total ass of 1080p gaming.

idk

tbh unless you are getting it used for a good price i would say no. im not sure if it is the same where you live but where i live its actually more expensive to buy lga 1150 then current gen cpus.

just look at the price of the cpu+mobo+ram and see how it compares to 6th or 7th gen options. also you could consider waiting for ryzen but then that mobo would likely be gone.

I love my 4790K to death, and will keep it as long as it's the least bit viable. I could see it lasting me another 4-5 years before I give it up.

That said, my G3258 system is gone, replaced by one with an i3-6100, and my i3-4150 is gone, replaced by an i5-6500 build. My wife's PC is currently housing an i7-6700, and it will for 5-6 years more. The reason? More than anything else, DDR4. Skylake isn't that big an improvement over Haswell, and Kaby Lake is virtually no improvement over Skylake in terms of IPC. If you can get a really good deal on an 1150 motherboard that's already got RAM bundled in with it, go for it. If not, it seems to me to be foolish to pay for DDR3 RAM, which is still surprisingly expensive even on the used market, when it's a dead end format. DDR4 is going to be the RAM of choice for several generations, and you're doing yourself a disservice by buying from the older platform.

This coming from a guy who recently built a system with a Q6600 and bought one with an E7200 so he could drop an E8600 in it. Don't judge me.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.
