AMD build for my nephew

Guest Gazzer96

My nephew's current system is slowly dieing just after 2 years (he go it from PC world) and I am putting together a build ready for when the time happens.

I have put a build together for a budget of under £1000 (without a monitor) at PC part picker and I would like to see your opinions/suggestions since I am not that knowledgeable on AMD parts: link

Also, I have heard that different models of AMD GPUs can be CrossFired; I think he currently has a AMD Readon 6670 (not entirely sure), so could I put that in with the new card?

additional information,  the Biostar TA990FXE seems to have good reviews (link) so that is the reason I picked that to start with.

Help will be appreciated!  :)

BIOSTAR makes cheap boards, sound cards are pointless with decent onboard audio, the graphics power is lacking, why a caching SSD, a crap cooler and one of the worst ATX cases.

You would have to CF your 6670 with another 6670, which would be shit. This is great for the money.

What's dying on his rig

I think quite of few things are dying on his machine; his APU gets bogged down when performing simple tasks like searching the web, even when there are just a small number light processes running in the background, he complains that his games crash every now and then, especially on Gmod and his optical drive has started playing up.

The reason why I put a cashing SSD is because I thought it would help with loading time.

The PSU seems fine, but I'll have to check what wattage it is. The HDD performs well enough, but a bit worried on how much long it will last. It has 6GB of DDR3 RAM (no idea why it does not have 8GB), so I could just get 1 stick of 2GB RAM from the same brand, but it works as it should. The motherboard I am unsure about.

not sure about the US, but in SA, getting the FX8320 instead of the FX8350 is a much better deal.

I'm the one who overclocks.

Well, the video was from back when Elric still was the poster, so it's not that horrible, but yea the new content is horrible.

Props for the evo drive but if you Can fit in a 250 gb version you would get the sweetspot for price/performance. It would also allow for a few more games on the ssd. Can be Nice for some slow lading games. Someone suggested 2133 ram, according to Linus and slick future games gain more from higer speed ram. Old sweetspot was as you have 1600, but if it is better ram vs langer ssd. Get the ssd as it has more chips than 120 version giving faster speeds.

Hope he's goin to enjoy the build.

Hifi gl with it.

/Chris
