New build wont boot

Go to solution Solved by Brooksie359,

make sure you dont have a dead ram stick. try booting with only one stick of ram and change which stick you try and see if that works

Just got the pieces in for my new unraid build and I can't get it to boot.

The motherboard gets power, the led is green on the board.  The fans spin up for the CPU and case, when I plug in the HDMI to the computer my monitor beeps to let me know it is connected.  With the power on, my keyboard does not get power (cheap Amazon board that lights up).  The screen is just black on the monitor.  I tried adding a gpu I had sitting around that I know works to see if it was the onboard video, and I get the same results.

I don't know what to do next.

Strip it of USB devices and hard disks. Then see if it'll boot. If not, try to reseat everything.

On the monitor, re-activate the hdmi input via the on-monitor control panel and see if that helps.  Also, try clearing CMOS.

This is another reason why most people should check that the equipment POSTs outside of the case before building the PC... then if your system doesn't POST when inside the case it may point to a building error. I know it doesn't help you now, but it's a good rule to follow.

It's quite possible it was not seated all the way down as well.  Try re-seating it and make sure it is all the way down..sometimes on new boards it is hard to get the ram sticks all the way down.  If not, then RMA it.

no problem. someone else had a very similar problem a while back and it ended up being the ram so i thought that might be the case.

You're right, I didn't push hard enough down ... too afraid of breaking something lol.  I am up and running now ... only like 24 hours of formatting my drives and I will be ready to go.

Glad I could help.  I had that problem a few years ago with an MSI board.  Talk about sweating bullets.  I didn't know what the heck was going on.  Thankfully that board had a debug code LED and I was able to track it down in the manual and get it fixed.  Now, I won't buy a board without one and I always make sure to not make that mistake again lol.

Glad you are up and running!
