Upgrading from a 390x and using the 390x in a different build and i am going with a 1070.

So i got it down to a evga ftw/ftw2 and Msi gaming/gaming x and was wondering which one had a better cooler and what the difference between the gaming and gaming x is, so far it looks like it is just higher clock speeds and allows for different modes each with a different core clock and boost clock.

All cards you mention are great cards

pick the cheapest one which looks best.

they're pretty much the same in terms of performance, and the difference between gaming and gaming X is factory overclocking, and maybe power delivery (I'm not sure, but don't think so)

Been looked at the new FTW2. they upgrade the cooler and the result is not that bad.

But if in the end better cooler wont give u more performance then u better off with the cheapest among those gpu u have mentioned.

This ftw2 seems awfully a lot like just a marketing deal, add one or two features, changes its look a tad and sell it refreshed for a tad higher price.

Do you know what the stock clocks on the gaming x is? Without the modes?

My MSI Gaming X 1070 is at 1,987 MHz on boost at stock / power / temp limit at 126% / 92C. VRAM at 4000MHz

Overclocked, I got to 2,114 MHz (+150MHz) with the core voltage at 100% with 4400MHz on VRAM (+400MHz).

My card has some pretty bad VRAM though, I can't push it as far as others have been able to (I've seen people with 500MHz+ on VRAM on the Gaming X).

It runs really cooler and quiet too. It just sucks it gets beat by my 980 Ti for the most part for my work needs...

its 1,987 as boost when running at stock so stock when not boosted should be around 1800 or so a a rough guess then?

I would aos look at ROG Strix, cooler is superb. Has lower temps than Gaming X

not really looking at gigabyte or asus especially those three fan ones (too big) and never really liked asus, and looked up temps of the strix and some gigabyte ones and it only runs cooler by about 1-2 so it doesnt really matter at that point and heard the best reviews of the msi gaming x and evga ftw so decided between those two.

and leaning towards the gaming x at this point but only confused to at what the out of the box stock clocks are as it seems to be only the stock clocks for the modes it has (gaming,OC, and silent) and includes the boosts for them as well, but from other reviews seems to be around 1800 at stock but not sure

Hmm, reset the card back to default, it goes from 1880 - 1940 MHz. Though, you should just crank the power limit / temp limit. You're not really going to damage anything.

According to Tech Power Up, it's 1873MHz on their sample.

Not trusting your graphs when they could be made up by you or something, i looked at 45 other graphs each saying something different than this

Yes, it was made up by me and I put guru3d.com at the bottom

Again it's all your choice I am not trying to force you anything

Well, it's alright. I would still recommend at least setting the temp and power limit to max, that way you get a solid 1940Mhz. I mean, it'll stabilize your stock boost anyway.

Alright sounds good, and i will have an extra graphics card for a separate build
