my s7 does pretty well but she wants something that'll have good flexibility. The s7 while good struggles in low light like every smartphone camera does.

A friend wants to shoot some sort of documentary and is looking for a video camera that is somewhat affordable. Any suggestions? Not much of a budget but were not looking at things from red haha.

Maybe start with a camera like this?

A good photographer knows where to focus the lens, a bad photographer focuses on the wrong things.  A good photographer goes out to the world and tries to create something new, a lazy wannabe photographer goes to a museum to take photos of things people have photographed before. - Good Photography

Whats your budget? You said "we are not looking at things from RED", but those are expensive, like really expensive.

So are we talking stuff like A7s ii/ A7s in the 2000-3000 range for body and say 2000 more for lenses and accessories new. Could be half of that if bought used.

If we are talking stuff of that level you could also be looking at steadycam rigs, larger lights, external monitors and so on.

Or are we in the sub 1000 category where we would be looking at things like A6300 or a G7.

(All prices are roughly estimated in USD)

FX-8350 GTX760 16GB RAM 250GB SSD + 1TB HDD
