How to build a NAS

So i'm a Mac user and I wanted to build a NAS for photos external storage of photos, videos, audio, etc. What components and software will I need? Don't know a hole lot about NAS's so help would be appreciated.

I'd recommend synlogy or qnap sense your used to macs. They are plug and play and will be more then enough for what you need.

If you wish to build your own NAS this video made by Pauls Hardware is quite useful and can give you an insight on how to build and setup a NAS of your own. But if you want to avoid the trouble of building your own system I recommend buying a pre-built one. For pre-built nas's I recommend Synology.
