780TI Thread

Guest

Yet again, the 290X leads in 4K benchmarks http://www.anandtech.com/show/7492/the-geforce-gtx-780-ti-review

That massive memory bandwidth really makes the 290X the card of the future.

I'm not at all impressed with the 780Ti. Nvidia did what was expected of them. They unlocked all CUDA cores on the GK110, and clocked the memory faster. Sure, they have the fastest single GPU crown back at non-4K resolutions, but for $700, one could buy two 290's and crush the 780Ti.

I'm impressed by the overclocking shown so far on a reference cooler, with results that are still quieter than uber 290x while being considerably faster at consumer level resolutions.

290X is as future proof as any other 28nm card, meaning it isn't. When next gen games come out targeting 1080 and 1440 it is going to become shader bound and fall by the wayside to 20nm mid-range cards.

I'm wondering how well this card is going to sell. At $700 it's going to be a tough sell considering that a 780 has better price to performance numbers. The real price to performance sweet spot is currently with the R9 290 (non X) which is going to get better once the non-reference designs arrive which I hope address the heat and noise issues. It would be interesting if NVidia reduces their prices soon for the $780Ti. I would love to see this card at $599. But I dream... I dream...

So the EVGA 780ti Classified takes two 8-pin power cables.  Not sure how much it overclocked yet though...

The 780Ti is an awsome card, the 290x will still beat it in 4k benchmarks due to the lack of ROPs but in 1080p and 1600p results the 780Ti will truely beat it with the added texture units. If i was to get a card without a doubt it would have to be the 780Ti.

vince lucido said this one is a special Classy. Excited to see in what way special! ^^ but if even the normal 780ti can reach 1200+ on  the core the Classy should go way above 1350!

Darn Industry Affiliates, always teasing us  <_<   I need to see how a non-reference 290X OC with Mantle performs in BF4 compared to that Classified 780ti before I think about buying any.  -_-

OverclockersUK reported that their 780ti cards were repeatedly getting 1300MHz+ core clock, I can't find the speeds for the Classified anywhere though, it's being kept really secret :P

I've seen so attractive offers for 780 that I'm almost tempted to buy a third GPU. What's stopping me is the fact that more than two GPU's are rarely worth the money. However if I needed a new GPU, I would definitely consider for having dual non Ti 780's. They're not cheap but you could almost get two 780's for the price of one 780Ti.

If you already have 2 GTX 780, its best to get another one if your mobo supports it.

I'm about to upgrade to 1440p.

Like I said, I probably stick with my current setup. The performance increace for having more than two cards is not really worth the money. And there would be driver issues as well. However anyone considering 780Ti should also consider for having dual 780's. Much more performance but only relatively higher cost.

SLI 780 should be fine for 1440p gaming so you're alright :)

Anyone thinking of watercooling a 780ti?

The 780ti is just too expensive for me so I think I'll settle with a 780 gaming edition from msi.

Yes the price is reserved for those willing to pay more than what they're getting back.

Nvidia likes to pretend it is Intel, but they do command a premium on the market their sales even when offering competitive but less perf/$ confirm that.

OC3D.NET guy had a nerdgasm through his entire video over the 780 Ti.

Yes, thats tinytomlogan from ttl customs. He says he's sponsored from amd and said all the worst things about the 290x and loves the 780 / 780ti above everything... not convinced. In any case the price is just too high. Even the 780 is expensive right now. I love the price of the 280x thats more than reasonable for me. So in my mind not even the 780 is worth the money like you said but I just want the performance and i use a few of nvidia technologies like 3d vision and physx. And I like my cards cool as well...

I admit the 780ti is a proper beast, but I can't rationalize buying it for that price. And money is not really the issue for me since I'm a lawyer trainee which lives with his parents... :)

Why I would take a 780Ti:

Fastest single GPU card.(at 1080 and 1440p, not really on higher resoloutions)

Looks good although I think the 290X doesnt look bad but...

Quiet

Why I wouldnt take a 780Ti:

290X is like 150$ cheaper and 290 is 300$ cheaper

At stock it doesnt perform better than 290X - I know that many people on this forum OC their cards but most people are more likely not going to do that...

Another option is to add 100$ more and get 2 290s which perform much better...

SLI scales worse now than CF(Anandtech - 290X in CF performed better than 780Ti in SLI)
