It comes with a shitty as they call it "router modem combo". I don't need a modem for fiber optic right? So do I only need to use my aftermarket router or am I completely wrong?

Unsure what power supply to pick?

Check out my HTPC build.

Well by modem they probably mean that it converts the fiber connection to ethernet. We literally have no idea what this combo you are talking about is, so some pictures or something would be nice to have.

My native language is C++

Not sure how ATT does fiber. Verizon runs the fiber cable in to whats called a ONT. This converts the fiber to copper on the customers premises. From the ONT they do Coax if you have TV service or Ethernet.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

You have a cable plugged into the DSL port, if that's the case, you don't have fiber and you need a modem. You can get a better DSL modem/router, sure, but you still need one. Even if you're getting AT&T Fiber at some point you still have to use their stupid modem unfortunately.

In my case, I have a fiber coming to the apartment and a separate device is used for converting the fiber to standard copper cable. I have heard it being called terminal or converter, not sure what the correct one is.

Well tbh my dad ordered it and called it optic fiber. The at and t guy also called it fiber when I talked to him shortly. I was just confused at seeing an RJ-45 connecter to what the cox guy calls a "modem router combo". When he said for sure that it is fiber. I don't know anything about fiber so im really confused XD.

Hmmm, something isn't right since as far as I know it should be plugged into ONT Broadband but maybe I just never paid attention when I was talking to my buddy about his setup, or maybe they are offering slower speed fiber elsewhere and that goes into the DSL port for some reason. Either way though, you do, unfortunately, need their modem. You can turn off all the functionality and put it into a DMZ Plus mode where it basically acts like a dumb box and then plug your router into it but the way they have their network setup you'll need to keep the modem around regardless :(

Well shit. Thanks ill see if I can route an ethernet cable to my computer cause I'm on the 5Ghz band literally 15 feet away from the damn thing and I get 1 bar and some occasional serious lag on games... I mean its through 2 walls but still. Was tryna convince my dad to stick with what I had but what can you do.

Well you said you had a router already, you can still use that, you just need to disable DHCP and a few other features on that router and then disable wireless on the modem.
