I'm buying an FX-8350 processor, and I'm deciding if I should spend a little more, and get the wraith cooler, or just go with the regular cooler, or get a 3rd party one. But I don't want to deal with putting in the other cooler, since it can be a pain, but is the wraith cooler worth it? How good is it compared to other coolers?

Just get a 3rd party cooler.

3rd party cooler will give your better temperatures and better performance out of that chip, so don't waste extra money for an AMD cooler. Or wait for Ryzen.

If you're going to spend money on a cooler, better to look at something like a CM Hyper 212 EVO or 212 Plus.

i mean, i'm not doing that much overclocking, but i was just wondering if it was worth the extra $20, without the pain of installing it to the motherboard and in the case

For the Wraith cooler, no, it's not worth the money as it's barely an improvement. The 8350 kicks out a fair bit of heat at stock, so you may still want to consider an aftermarket cooler (could start with the stock cooler first and see how the temps are)

As an owner of the fx platform since its launch, at this stage it is pretty useless without factoring in a decent oc. Which requires a good board and decent cooler, given something like a cheaper deepcool heatsink performs as well or better than an evo. Once you've taken that into account, there isn't really a price difference to a mid range i5 system, which will have both an ipc and clock speed advantage.

If your upgrading an existing system and aren't outlaying much money it's still probably worth holding on the fx for a while.

Every build is some sort of a budget build if you get my drift. But as to your question, the extra $17 usd for the wraith cooler does give you a better cooling solution, but $25 extra for something like a deepcool gammaxx will give you better cooling performance.

Then there's also the fx-8300 for $110~ usd + better heatsink. I've this combo and in my case (silicon lottery blah) oc's like a champ sitting at 4.3ghz on all cores all the time on a board with a 4+1 phase vrm. Which is another option, but oc'ing isn't for everyone.
