EVGA 430W PSU - Good enough?

jappypack

GTX 1050, no overclocking

(Haven't decided on the CPU but no overclocking)

Don't mind non-modularity or black cables.

JohnnyGuru gave it a good rating.

If I ever upgrade my GPU, by that time it's going to be more efficient (e.g the gtx 1060 runs fine on the PSU, which suggests the 1260 would be more efficient than this and also run fine, if I do get a higher-end GPU I'd probably have enough money to get a better PSU but right now I don't!)

yea.., i think it should be fine depending on what else you buy. but if you have a bit extra cash always get a modular psu

JohnnyGuru gives everything a good rating, you should ignore the scoring and read the entire review to see how they actually perform. The EVGA W1 series is terrible, don't buy one.

We can't just go off of your gpu. Your going to need to display your full specs. Decide on your main components and then decide on the psu

The i3 is there because it's a placeholder for AMD Ryzen (ik its speculation), if it doesnt interest me I'll go for the Pentium G4560 or the i5 6400.

Please don't get one, they are bad PSUs. Spend a little more and get something at least half decent. Antec's EarthWatts green is a decent choice for around £40

With a low power draw system like that, the old Corsair CX series is a better choice for not much money.

It's a terrible PSU.

Get this http://pcpartpicker.com/product/fZyFf7/seasonic-power-supply-s12ii520bronze

Seasonic S12ii 520W, Tier 3 (430W is only $1 less so might as well get the extra headroom). Best budget PSU since the CX450M is like $60 for no reason now.

The cheapest available S12II unit in the UK is £70, US links aren't much use as the pricing differs significantly.

What about the VS450?

Better, but still bad. PSU is really the last thing you want to skimp on.

EDIT: Take a look at the PSU tier list we have on the forum. It doesn't cover everything, but it can serve as a pretty good guide. Pick something from at least tier 4 or up and you'll be fine. For reference, both the VS series and the W1 series are in tier 6, right near the bottom (excluding the W1 400W, which is even lower)

It would be stable enough for a 1050, but there's far better PSUs in the same price range.  HEC is the maker of that particular model and it pales in comparison to EVGA's Supernova series.

Except the Supernova series costs a lot...

My budget is about £450.

Not saying you should get one, just pointing out that not all EVGA units are great ones, and that you should not buy on the name alone.

I would recommend the Corsair CXM or Seasonic S12ii for the $50 range of PSUs.

I already tried recommending the S12ii.

But, yeah, the CX450M was my next recommendation

Nothing wrong with two people recommending the same thing - gives impression that the psu is good, but yeah I probably missed it. :)

The S12II is certainly good, but I was pointing out that it's a lot more expensive here in the UK (where OP is), so it's not really an option.

Understood.  I guess what you suggested would be the lowest I would go (the Antec Earthwatts or Corsair CX).  The Antec will certainly do the job for low powered GPUs but you gotta deal with non-sleeved ugly cables. :P

Seasonic or Superflower OEMs are fine too if they're available in UK.

I'm going with a SuperFlower Platinun King since the 450W is on sale a lot.
