gtx780 w/ 500w, do i really need 600w?

I'm thinking of buying a new gtx780 but I do only have a 500w power supply, it says I need a 600w power supply. Is it necesary to upgrade my power supply too? I cant buy both things.

Well, if you are a little tight with the budget maybe the 780 isn't for you. 

You could probably pull it off with a 500w, but if you are worried about it maybe hold off for a few weeks to see if the price drops a little lower. Its a strange time to be purchasing a graphics card right now. 

 

But to answer your question: MAYBE

Is that 2500k OCed? If so you should run it a stock just to be safe.

Make sure if the cables have the correct number of pins required. 500w is fine, you might see your power draw be close to 350w-500w

I would think that most people with the money for a GTX 780 wouldnt bat an eyelash at purchasing a 700-800 watt power supply. Buy the minimum you need, and thats what you have. If you buy a nice power supply with some headroom, it'll be usefull for years to come even if your needs change.

lol the cx500m only has 408w on the 12v rail so it isn't 500w worth of power. i wouldn't run that psu with a gtx 780 and a 2500k. i'll be upgrading my psu when i get a 280x in December.
