Been reading alot of usefull topics on this site, so thoght I'd get ur oppinion on this.

I wanted a new monitor for gaming and so I realised I might need a new GPU and CPU to power the graphics - I mainly play LoL, GTA V, L4FD2, CoD, Rocket Leauge, Overwatch. No high end stuff.

This is what im considering.

AOC 24" LED FreeSync G2460VQ6

- MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB OC

- AMD FX 8300 3,3 ghz (and a cooler so to OC it)

To replace:

- GTX 260 1gb

- AMD FX 4100 3,6 ghz

Also currently running:

- 2x8 gb of HyperX Fury DDR3 RAM

- MOBO is GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

- XFX 550W PSU

Any thoughts? Am I overdoing it with GPU? Is it worth the 120 euro for the CPU?

Thanks in advance \o/

If you're getting a FreeSync monitor and want to use that feature, you'll need an AMD video card.

That CPU is a for sure upgrade, but I would honestly hold out until you can afford something better. It's a waste of money in my opinion when you could have way more performance even on a modern Intel i3.

CPU is iffy tbh seeing as its old and has poor IPC but its going to be better then what you have atleast. the GPU is a decent pick but i would go for the RX 470 4GB instead

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

jesus christ get a gsync monitor for an nvidia gpu, and that cpu would even bottleneck that 1050ti.

I would not upgrade the CPU now. I would keep the current CPU/Motherboard and upgrade them later when RyZen launchs.

If you are buying FreeSync Enabled monitor then you should consider buying an AMD graphics card. I would recommend RX 470 4gig.

Poor recommendation. That's an older card and will probably have to be bought used. Here's a newer, much faster card which goes for $160 now and $145 after a rebate.

Considering what he's buying, a g-sync monitor is way out of his budget. An rx 470 would be a better choice. As well, I don't think an 8300 would bottleneck a 1050 ti.

Good luck!

Also, I recommend watching anime at 1080p or in a 720p window with black bars. The sharpness improves immersion and the quality of the visuals. There are lots of shows and movies with incredible artistic value that simply don't have HD releases at all, like Anne of Green Gables. I have a 1024*768 monitor on hand for these kind of situations where I get handed a 4:3 aspect ratio show, and keep it at a distance where I can read the subtitles but can't notice the pixellation.

i watch all anime at 720p becauce my internet is not enough for more sadly(can do 1080p youtube tho -_- ) and on one of my 22" monitors instead of my 27" so its not bad tbh, 720p looks better then you think IMO

I used to watch at 720p, but I had a 1440x900 display, so it wasn't bad. Since that's a 16x10 aspect ratio, it only got stretched to about 800p, which didn't make much of a difference. However, it was night-and-day on my 1080p monitor. If I can only find a show in 720p, I don't stretch it across the entire 1080p display, but leave it windowed. If it's lower still and I really care about the show's visuals, it's time to break out the dinosaur 1024*768p monitor. It's 16 years old, but it has surprisingly accurate colours.

Check for calibrated ICC display profiles on the internet. Here's a page with a ton of them.

They're also easily found in written monitor reviews. Here's where I found one for my BenQ EW2440L-

@deXxterlab97 and you should get along well.

I'm sure you've done a good job, but it's hard to beat a hardware calibration tool. Sometimes, however, the differences between two panels of the same model might be significant enough for ICC profiles not to work with both, but this is quite rare.

Something else you might consider is a more in-depth user-dependent calibration than the one that comes built into Windows. Here's one-

Here's one-

main problem with color mismatch right now is that the 22" ones arent nearly as bright lol. colors are pretty consistant seeing as i spent quite a while calibrating all i could to not drive me insaine later :P

Spoiler

Set your primary display to the brightness of the room you're in, and then adjust the others to match that.

For CS GO and OW you would be nicer to get a 144Hz monitor instead of one with freesync (if both would be nice but I doubt you can spend on it)

The game you list are mainly competetive game and should have no problem with older GPU. Though CS GO is pretty high on CPU usage.

A GTX 760 should get up to 200-300 fps no problem with CS GO (speaking from experience) so an RX 460 from AMD/ GTX 1050 would all be a good choice

An upgrade to FX 8300 is a good choice to so not not replace the board

How much can you spend?

true, should probably do that but i doubt the Acer one will even get that bright, its like it has a filter of black -_-

Thx for replying!

144Hz is nice out of my price range. Since im not rly into fps games other than LoL and Overwatch, i'll be finde with 60hz.

Im not gonna spend more than 500 euro ish.

Been reading about freesync - it should be able to run with a Geforce gpu as far as i've read..?
