An Apple TV is basically for casting your mac/iOS screen to the TV, playing youtube/netflix/etc..., or watching your iTunes library.

Youtube yes, but I'm not quite sure if the ATV actually has a dedicated web browser.

You can see all the photos you have synced to iCloud/my photo stream (on a mac/iOS device) or that you have on a Mac/iOS device.

As @djdwosk97 has stated, the Apple TV is a media consumption device that sources its' content from internet-connected devices. It was never intended to be a standalone computer, unless you consider the newer 4th Gen Apple TV that has some capability in playing Apps downloaded from Apple's App Store.

  • Youtube/Netflix/Flickr/NHL/NBA/HBO/etc?
    • Yes, this is exactly what it's designed for.
  • Web Browsing like a computer?
    • Nope, Apple would never allow this.
  • Coding/Porgramming/Text Editing?
    • Nope, unless someone makes an app for that.
  • External Storage?
    • Nope, Apple doesn't even seem to want people using external storage on their new MacBook "Pro".
  • File Manager?
    • Nope, none of Apple's iOS devices have file managers.
  • Store Photos/Files Directly on Apple TV?
    • Possibly, again if someone makes an App.

What you're asking for is essentially a mini Computer - at this point, you'd be better off buying a used 2012 Mac Mini and repurposing it as a media center style computer that you can also use for development purposes. As for your Dropbox App question, again, there is no official support for this, even on Android TV devices. (Although on Android TV, you can sideload most app APKs, so that's a workaround.)

It's not a PC....it's a tv box replacement....hence the title....Apple TV.

Well, its not meant to be PC. Or replace PC. Its meant to remove cable connecting PC directly to TV. If you want example from other side of pond (so to say), Chromecast does same for non-Apple (and non-WP) devices.

Ditto this, by far the most effective set top box I've used. It has full USB drive and sd card support, you can host a media server using built in plex server functionality on it,  this is what I use mine for primarily.

PC:

Monolith(Laptop): CPU: i7 5700HQ GPU: GTX 980M 8GB RAM: 2x8GB 1600MHz Storage: 2x128GB Samsung 850 EVO(Raid 0) + 1TB HGST 7200RPM Model: Gigabyte P35XV4 Mouse: Razer Orochi Headset: Turtle Beach Stealth 450

IoT:

Router: Netgear D7000 Nighthawk

NAS: Synology DS218j, 2x 4TB Seagate Ironwolf

Media Accelerator: Nvidia Shield via Plex

Phone: Sony Xperia X Compact
