It wouldn't, and it would be a bad idea as for example an 8-pin PCIe connector doesn't have the pins in the right place for an 8-pin CPU connector.

will my 8-pin cpu power connector work with my psu, that has a 4-pin connector?

I think it could work, although I'm not sure whether the motherboard will refuse to boot, or whether it would depend on the CPU model. Which PSU do you have? Sometimes PSUs come with additional 4 pins that you can snap together to form an 8-pin CPU connector.

My PSU has a 4-pin power connecter. Motherboard has 6-pins. can my computer still work?

What is your motherboard? The standard is a 24 pin and either 1 or 2 4 pin connectors. Are you using an oem motherboard?

The CPU power connector in that board has 8 pins.

Edit: well, too slow :P

yes it will work, provided you cpu doesn't need the extra juice.

I am a paid professional, but only when I am at work...and getting paid.

I know, as I said, it was a stretch, by worst case it didn't fit. This was before I was told that it was in fact an 8pin connector.
