Hello guys and girls,

I am searching for a CPU with the best potential to reach the highest single core clock. That CPU is not meant for any workload except benching/overclocking. Just wanted to gather some more opinions on this Topic.

Thanks in advance

The AMD Sempron 145 has been a pretty good overclocker from what I've heard.

so a new GHz record? Kabylake 7700K gold sample, disable all but one core, good motherboard with two RAM slots and LN2

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

You would have tor each 9GHz to do that, which simply isn't possible on Kaby.

Its not considered for LN2, the competition its going in will be limited to water and air cooling.

Well that would include a pricey Z270/Z170 Board including the CPU just to be used for benching.

true, didnt think of those but i dont think they go as high in clocks, but i also havent seen any overclocks of those running anything but all cores.

well like somebody said the Sempron 145 is pretty good, if you happen to live in Sweden i can send you one for the shipping cost if you want lol. i have like 25 CPUs that i cant/dont use

They just happen to all be in the top 10 of fastest CPU's ever, higher than all intel CPU's excluding the D 352.

The G3258 can be overclocked using a cheap H81 board. I have a G3258 and an ASUS H81M-C in my second PC and I am able to overclock the CPU just fine!

Well but the VRM design is probably poorly on H81.

Well even with my i7 2600k I can push 5.2+ on one core. Im aiming for like 5.5 GHz + on a single core.

Unfortunately I live in Germany but thanks for the offer and I know i have some kind of Semprom still laying around. If it overclocks as stated probably a good start.

Yes, but

  • The G3258 doesn't draw much power at all
  • Slightly higher end B85 motherboards have better power delivery
  • The Z97 Anniversary, isn't too expensive and will allow you to overclock the chip as far as it can go

Some are better than others. B85 is a good compromise and most if not all should be able to get the chip to silicon and/or thermal limits before the limits of the VRMs. G3258 barely uses any power.
