As much as I love all the modern minimal cases on the market today with large tempered side panels, I find that a lot of them are lacking placement for front IO peripherals like a CF card reader, usb reader or an optical drive. Do any of you have this problem or issue with them?

Most cases I see have 2 or 3 5.25 bays for things like these. Also not many people use an optical drive these days anymore

What the heck is a 2.5" card?

Is that like a floppy disk?

Yeah most cases don't have SD card slots, and optical drives are pretty much obsolete so 5.25" bays are being removed.

i totally dont have this in my two optical bays:

yes, thats a BD burner, a multi card reader, a little shelf for a chinese remote (it remotely controls china ;)) and my WD black in the back there, sitting snugly in neopreen.

and in case you wonder, yes the card reader was harvested out a prebuilt and wrapped in electrical tape for safety reasons.

lol It's just that I do a lot of photography and a CF card reader is really convenient for me. Technically I don't need front io bays but then I would end up with a minimalist case with all the clutter of an optical drive and card reader on my desk....

that's why i got an R5, not only do i have space for a bluray cupholder, but i also have a multi card reader (helpful for 3D printing in my case, which is why i installed it) and a shelf for putting my chinese remote control on, so i can remotely control china :D (which then controls the power to vareous devices in my room ;))

The R5 is nice I looked at one recently I just wish they came with a tempered glass side panel, I'm a sucker for modern design.

My next case upgrade will be the Fractal R5 since I need at least two 5.25" bays for an ODD and hot-swap bay.

No I don't think it would, I'll show a picture of a more "recent" case that has one. (I used this same exact case in a build recently and I have a 2.5 in it)

Image result for thermaltake case with psu

ok so this isnt the case i used but it shows my example, see the smaller slot below the 5.25 slots?

It's a 2.5 slot drive but a have an adapter to fit it into a 5.25 bay, either way I'd like to see more modern cases with A drive slot.

You can still mount it to the bottom of the desk :P

Or just put an external one on top. I have a portable optical drive for the about once yearly occurrence that I need it.

Almost all of those ports are obsolete and have bee replaced by USB.

If you need more IO, you can buy USB hubs that give you everything you need.

99% of people don't need more than a few audio jacks and USB ports on the front of their PC so manufacturers don't put in front bays to keep the case looking clean.
