Using 600W on 550W power supply.

Check out my system using 600W on my EVGA 550W EVGA G2.

Specs:

7700K

980ti

1070

Running unraid.

The plan was to run 970s - that is why the PSU is only 550W. Normal gaming usage is 450 - 500W.

Its probably fine, its of good quality and it will most likely shut down before taking damage if the strain becomes to much.

A 550w PSU can deliver 550w (continuously) to the components. Now, since it has an efficiency around 85-90% under 100% load, that means you'll be drawing up to 650w from the wall. It's perfectly normal, don't worry about it.

Yeah, not too worried about it. I have an 850W, but I'll leave this in until it dies.

Well the load tester thingy that reads out wattage doesn't account for efficiency. If you were demanding all 550W from the G2 you'd be drawing roughly 632W from the wall so you've still got like 20W-ish headroom :P

A g2 is very high quality, you might already move on from 970 sli when it happens lol

The 550W number on your power supply is it's output, not power draw from the wall.  If it was 100% efficient (it's not) the output would be equal to the power draw from the wall.

If the power supply is 90% efficient, you're putting out 549W when you're pulling 611 from the wall.

SFF-ish:  Ryzen 5 1600X, Asrock AB350M Pro4, 16GB Corsair LPX 3200, Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro -75mV, 512gb Plextor Nvme m.2, 512gb Sandisk SATA m.2, Cryorig H7, stuffed into an Inwin 301 with rgb front panel mod.  LG27UD58.

Aging Workhorse:  Phenom II X6 1090T Black (4GHz #Yolo), 16GB Corsair XMS 1333, RX 470 Red Devil 4gb (Sold for $330 to Cryptominers), HD6850 1gb, Hilariously overkill Asus Crosshair V, 240gb Sandisk SSD Plus, 4TB's worth of mechanical drives, and a bunch of water/glycol.  Coming soon:  Bykski CPU block, whatever cheap Polaris 10 GPU I can get once miners start unloading them.

MintyFreshMedia:  Thinkserver TS130 with i3-3220, 4gb ecc ram, 120GB Toshiba/OCZ SSD booting Linux Mint XFCE, 2TB Hitachi Ultrastar.  In Progress:  3D printed drive mounts, 4 2TB ultrastars in RAID 5.
