Is it worth downloading a third party antivirus, or stick with windows defender? I don't pirate games, and I stay on safe pages (such as youtube, facebook, ltt forum, massdrop, amazon, etc). I don't download off sketchy webpages.

If so, what antivirus would you recommend?

I've always been a believer in the adage of "I'd rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it". Part of the reason I carry a firearm. Anyways, I'd recommend ESET Anti-Virus. It's like thirty bucks and is light on resources and just chills in the background.

Personally I disagree with the firearm (I'm a nobody, with no one is out to get me), but I see where you're coming from (used to carry a small first med bag in my university backpack).

That doesnt mean u are free from virus..

windows defender are useless from my experience.

Thats why i use avast.. i think its the best anti virus i have ever used its got browser protection and all kind of protection and it got gaming mode too..

The interface is simple and its just easy to use.

I know it doesn't mean I'm free from viruses, but I believe it reduces the chances (at least I hope).

Windows defender is good enough the majority of the time. that and also an adblocker such as Ublock origin. i would pair it with Malwarebytes as well, but be aware that malwarebytes defends against malware, exploits, and ransomware, not really viruses.

if you really want an antivirus, i use Bitdefender; it's fairly lightweight when you set it on Autopilot so it won't intrude when you play games and such. been running it for a couple of months ever since i got it on a sale.

Firstly, don't spend money on antivirus software. They are at the point that paying for antivirus is just a waste of money.

I use AVG on a daily basis, however I used Avira for several months, choosing to switch back to AVG a while back for my personal preference.

Completely agree. Better to have it and not need it. AVG is good but has gotten a bit ridiculous with pop ups and ads. Malwarebytes is a good one.

It sounds terrible but I got a free full version of Norton with my Comcast sub. I haven't used Norton in over a decade but it seems to do the job

I would have to say, no you don't need a 3rd party anti-virus. The reason? People basically stopped writing viruses for the "common man", it doesn't mean that you can't get a virus anymore, it just means that it's highly unlikely. If you did, windows defender should be more than enough to take care of it, unless you're a "person of interest" in which case you'll be attacked with a phising or spearhead attack which is completely different from a virus.

Personally I use windows defender, malwarebytes and superantispyware (using your brain also helps a lot), I've heard of many other using this combo and never getting into any trouble, I've heard Luke say it on WAN show even saying he knew systems administrators doing the same

tl;dr No you don't

Like someone already stated, eset nod32 is one of the best in the market, just remember the antivirus is your last resource of defense, keeping ALL you application updated, browser safe and all are still to be your priority.

ESET is probably one the worst piece of software I've used when it comes to anti-virus, it was almost impossible to get rid of it when I tested it, and it's just not as good as Kaspersky.
