What is the highest voltage I should put on my 6600K?

Ive been told that 1.5V or higher could kill it, which we can't have.

So what should the highest voltage be that I go for?

(BTW Im stopping my OC once I hit 80C)

Most people say for 24/7 use up to 1.35-1.45V. Personally I don't like to go over 1.4 for continuous use, but an willing to go up to 1.45V for temporary use.

Main Rig: R9 5950X @ PBO, RTX 3090, 64 GB DDR4 3666, InWin 101, Full Hardline Watercooling

LAN Rig: R5 3600X @ PBO, RTX 2070, 32 GB DDR4 3200, Dan Case A4-SFV V4, 120mm AIO for the CPU

HTPC: i7-7700K @ 4.6 GHz, GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB DDR4 3200, AliExpress K39, IS-47K Cooler

Router: R3 2200G @ stock, 4GB DDR4 2400, what are cases, stock cooler

I don't have a problem...

To be "safe", put it under 1.4V maybe like around 1.35V would be ideal. Then see from there, how much you can push it to.

It seems that 1.45V is the number everyone shoots for, but I'm not one to care for overclocking.

Do you know how to check voltages in windows?

You use software like aida64, CPU-z, hardware monitor, etc....

Are you sure you know how to overclock?

You might want to research it a bit more if you don't even know how to see CPU voltage, you don't want to set your house on fire.

I know how to, just confused as to what im reading.

My BIOS says 1.45V but CPU-Z says .624V

Am I reading this wrong? Im guessing I am

@Enderman is right.  If you are just getting started out, run your OC on the low end for a while until you learn how your CPU scales when overclocked.  Once you learn how it behaves, then start pushing things.

Well im pretty confident in OCing. Just trying to figure out what means what inside of software

CPUz reports VID, which is the voltage requested by the CPU.  VID differs from VCore, which is the actual voltage delivered to the CPU.

My motherboard has some type of voltage throttling that lowers the voltage when you're not pushing the CPU.
I wonder if there is a similar thing on Intel motherboards.

Well that is while Aida64 is running

Some motherboards are "bugged" in CPU-Z, where it shows the voltage in half. Multiply your voltage by 2x and you get the same voltage as you set in bios. See my picture for example: I have set my 2nd computer to 1.250V in bios, and CPU-Z reads 0.624. Multiply by 2x and you will get 1.248 :)

Side:   i7-4790K @ 4,5GHz   -   Maximus 7 Hero        -   GTX 1070 @ 2114MHz    -  16GB DDR3 @ 2666MHz / CL12
