Is this a good HTPC build

chris76816

Hey everyone, I am going to be building a home theatre pc for my home. I do not intend on gaming at all on it as I already have a pc for that. I want it to be able to stream 4k from netflix and to be able to use kodi. Do you think that this build would be good enough for that. https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/NJh6KZ

AMD APUs would probably be a killer deal after AMD Ryzen's release.

Its fine for Kodi, but you need a Kabylake CPU to run Netflix at 4K (Not hardware issue, just Intel being greedy). You can keep the build the same mostly, but replace it with a G4560 and a cheap B250 motherboard (Unless you have a spare skylake CPU to update BIOS of H110, which you probs dont).

Let's just pretend that they forgot to include the DRM chip in the original 'tick' release.

Pretend.

Hey Rohan, will the h110 board support intel graphics 610 with a bios update.

The old motherboards (1151) will support kabylake with a BIOS update, but you will probably need a spare Skylake CPU to do that (Some boards have a USB port to flash BIOS, but mostly high-end ones).

Edit:

Cheapest B250 Board I can find on Mwave: https://www.mwave.com.au/product/asus-prime-b250ma-lga-1151-micro-atx-motherboard-ab94326

yeah that would work but like nr8686 said to do 4k netflix steaming you will need a newer cpu from the kaby lake line up. something else to think about of your htpc will be close to where you sit you might want to look at gettin a small better cpu cooler because the stock intel can be loud and that could get annoying you should be able to get a small cpu cooler and run it on very little fan speed or even without a fan if the coolers good enough.

Because Intel have always been so consumer friendly. Its not that bad, they are just "gifting" us the chip, not like it should come free or anything.
