I need help with my build

thats not the rule of thumb. In this case an i7 will be spending more money on marginal performance gains that aren't worth the money.

thank you @Djole123. There is no reason to waste money in this build by getting an i7. I5s especially the 6600k or 7600k are more than enough for games.

also. The reason i didnt include SLI was to include a monitor that would utilize the power of the 1070 and still be able to be used for many years to come. hence 1080p at 144hz

Learn your shit m8. Most games can't adress more than 3-4 threads. Having an i7 for gaming is a complete waste of money.

yes they can especially in the future in dx12 and vulcan, a dual 1070 or a 1080 can push more fps than a overclocked i5 can handle.. also "learn your shit m8" I probably know more than you.

for a high-end build yes an i5 will bottleneck a sli 1070 or a 1080.

Then it's a good thing I didn't recommend SLI 1070s or a 1080 isn't it?

Yes. In the future more threads may be utilized. Not currently though. And not enough to render an i5 somehow bad for gaming. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/hwvzHN Just going to repost this real quick.

"currently" for a good  build it needs to stand the test of time for a bit. if OP can afford a good cpu he should.

@deXxterlab97 OP sounded like they didn't have one. And spending 1500$ on a PC and using a 22" 1080p 60hz monitor with it doesn't seem like the best balance. That's why i dropped the 1080 to a 1070.

nope a 6600k won't be that good especially agents a high end card such as a 1080, when someone can afford a 1080 they can spend a bit more for a good cpu.

No. You're just uninformed, and that's OK.

Look at how similar the framerates on 6600k vs 6700k are.

When it comes to using the latest Skylake chips for gaming, we tested both the integrated graphics and how it performs purely as a CPU partnered with a high-end graphics card. We used the Sapphire Vapor-X R9 290 for the latter, which is a card that’s fast enough to ensure it isn’t the bottleneck in our higher-end games tests.
