Intel stock cooler too small for mobo?

So I have an ASUS P8H61-M LX3 PLUS + I5 2400 and an Intel stock cooler. I was doing some fitting check and saw that I just couldn't get the stock cooler to align with the four holes. Two pushpins next to each other are fine, but the other two doesn't reach their holes. Any help?

where did you get the stock cooler?

whats likely is that you have an LGA 775 cooler which is smaller then the ones for 115X and 2011

I bought it used from a guy with the cpu+mobo and he said that it was used in another pc but it should work fine.

I would try to return it or double check he gave you the correct cooler.

Evo 212 is poor value for money and a pain to install. I'd suggest a Cryorig M9i.

Not pointless, a good cooler is quieter than a crappy one.

really, i always saw the evo 212 as a good price to performance option. plus ive never used the M9i so i cant say anything about it. you are right that a 3rd party cooler will be better though

Cooling's on par or marginally better than the 212 Evo, it's significantly quieter, and it's cheaper. The 212 Evo used to cost less than it does now, and had less competition. So it made a name for itself, such that everyone was buying it. Then Cooler Master could raise the price and milk the name, even as better coolers were launched by other companies.
