Ram Underclocked by Default?

So browsing on these forums I've picked up a lot of new software to check up on my PC and have been trying to fine tune a stable overclock (spoiler alert: there isn't one for my 4930k, it appears I lost the silicon lottery, can't even hold 4.4Ghz at 1.4v and anything less would just be a waste of time)

Anyway, to get to the heart of my question. I have 16Gb of G.skill Ripjaw DDR3 1600mhz memory on my Asus P9X79 LE motherboard along with a r9 380x, 2 solid state drives and 2 HDD's. All powered by my 850W thermaltake PSU (definitely overkill but I got a good break on it when I was working at BestBuy)

When I open CPU-Z and go to the memory tab it says that my DRAM frequency is 666.6 MHz. I checked my bios and its set to run at its native 1666. Sort of just confused by the situation. Its not like it actually effects my gaming performance but certainly is a puzzle.

If not that, then something extremely similar. 

I appreciate any help, and advice I receive, just in hopes of bettering my PC knowledge.

Due to it being DDR, the 666 is effectively 1333mhz. 

Have you tried enabling XMP to get it to the full 1600mhz?

Yeah that frequency is right... can't remember how it's calculated but that's showing you the correct info

Not for 1600mhz, it should read as 800.

Would this be due to the fact that its running in quad channel? I guess I should have mentioned that.

mines reads 793 mhz on the computer right now and it's a 1600MHz stick of ram

Give or take a few it should be around 800. DDR stands for Double Data Rate, so in programs it'll read as half the labeled speed.

OP are you sure its not 1333mhz memory? that RAM is available in 1333mhz. Running it in quad channel shouldn't make a difference.

No, it's just how DDR RAM works, by being able to send and receive twice as much data per clock cycle, hence the name, Double Data Rate.

I'm pretty sure I made sure to get 1600... however this is 4 years ago since the build. Brb going to turn on XMP in the bios. I turned it off to see if that would fix the issue. I'm so stupid I should have known that DDR stands for Double Data Rate

I know what ddr means... As far as I've noticed it's not always consistent... system next to me is reading closer to the Op's speed and that's 1600MHz also in fact all the systems in my work place run 1600MHz ram
