So I watched a video that was advertising the ability to lease GPU's. The site is called cutting edge gamer.

Basically, you can get the latest and greatest GPU for not much money. For example I can get a Titan XP for $140, and have it for a year.

Do you think sights like this are good or bad ideas?

I think it's fairly interesting since NVIDIA releases new cards about every year, so someone could have a decent card for a while, give it back and then grab the latest one until next release.

Kinda pissed I just bought a 1060. I could have had a Titan!

You or I must have misunderstood something.... there is no way you can rent a titan XP at $280 per year.

they cost 1200 to buy... they will last less than 2 years until the next titan comes out (maybe less, but we're going to use 2 years for easy math). so over 2 years they will earn $560 and then they will need to drop their renting price because the card will be relatively weaker. in short they will never earn their money back.

It's a good idea, allows you to still game while you save up so when you have to return it, you can purchase a graphics card.

Wait I might have misunderstood it. Its either $140 a month or $140 over 12 months.

definitely not going to be 140 per year... I could definitely see it being 140 per month.

I guess it would be nice for anyone who wants to spread out the payments.

I thought it was 140/month because when I hear the term 'lease' I think cars. So if you lease a car you still pay money for it but you return it and you have spend significantly less money to drive it for x period of time.

So for a GPU it would be you pay x dollars for a Titan, you can have it for a year, and then you return it

They make quite a profit. $1680 for a $1200 GPU that you only get for one year.

I feel like you could keep it tho. IDK.

Maybe not a bad idea for reviewers so you pay $140 for the card, test it for a month, and then return it

Anyone with a brain goes to a bank and gets a loan for 1200 bucks (or some other loan place) and pays it back over a year rather than leasing at 140 per month for a year. even with interest the cost is roughly the same ($1200+int or $1680). but the end result is that you actually own a card lol.

buuuut this is the internet... most people don't have brains. excellent market choice for these guys ;)

And our Buy Out Option – equal to one month’s payment – allows you to purchase the graphics card at the end of the lease term.

Ah ha ha,   So another $140 to buy what you already paid too much for!

IMO someone needs a service where you can rent tech for x dollars for x months so before you drop $10,000 on the gold apple watch you can decide if you like it

I bet you couldn't do the prior, and, as a rule, I wouldn't think one should review anything they wouldn't buy, for the reason that it adds something of a bias, whether it be in a good or bad direction.

Well I would buy it but im poor

I mean I feel like the people who need to have 2 titans would rather pay $600 a titan and then return it for the next year, and then someone could buy the used GPU for $800. Thats profit

That's the point I was trying to make though, it's more likely for someone who's used a 660ti their whole life to say "HOLY SCHNITZLE, BUY ALL OF THESE," (not to be mean), whereas I would say "Ya know, they marked it up $200 for a cut-down chip, and my Titan Z that I got for $300 beats it within an inch of its life for pro-applications, so might as well stay away."

How did you get a Titan Z for $300
