8GB or 16GB RAM?

Making a budget build and I was wonder how necessary is 16GB of memory?

I know more games today require more memory but is the extra money really worth it?

For gaming, if you're going 1080p, 8GB is fine. Just make sure you leave a slot or more open so that you can upgrade down the line when 8GB is no longer fine for gaming.

Either 8gb with empty slots, or just go with 16 from the start.

 

I'll be going with 2x8gb in my new build, so I can upgrade to 32gb when it becomes necessary.

8GB is fine as long as you don't have a ton of other things running in the background. Also despite what people may be inclined to believe, Windows will scale its memory usage based on how much system RAM is available. I've seen it use anywhere from 400MB with 2GB of RAM to 1.5GB with 8GB of RAM to 2.5GB with 16GB of RAM. But Windows is usually good about freeing up its own space. Usually.

Get a single 8gb stick, add one in a year or 2 time when you have the money.

8 will be enough to work with, 16 will be better if you are a tab junkie and use lots of programs at once.

I'm not sure how much memory you want for Arma III, but I do remember seeing a benchmark showing how much Arma III likes higher memory frequencies.

8GB is fine, save the money on the extra RAM (DDR4 RAMs are very expensive now because of the shortage) and spend that money on a better graphics card
