Titan x pascal or wait for 1080ti

I have a 780ti classified kingpin right now and I am looking to upgrade because I recently purchases a asus 4K monitor for gaming. I was looking at either a titan x pascal or 1080 sli. I was leaning more towards the titan because of sli issues, but I was also thinking of the 1080ti but I'm not sure if I want to wait.

Wait for VEGA as it might cheap up a little the Titan XP price.

Running on Vulkan, GTA V is DX11 which AMD hasn't strong drivers for, no wonder they never showed any Vega performing on DX11.

I don't imagine the 1100(or 2000, depending on what Nvidia does) will come out until 2018

Gonna be a forever waiting game. Get something now and regret it when something new and shiny comes out. Or wait for the next thing, then ask this again and everyone will say to wait for the next shiny thing.

Its like the same people who say to sli down the road and when that time comes they just say to get the new card and sli down the road.

I calculated the difference on AMD cards Vulkan vs dx11, it yielded about a 10% difference in frames. Since the vega cards on demo were very similar to gtx 1080 specs, assuming it was 10% less fast, you would still be hitting about 62fps on ultra 4k.

Just buy the Titan X now if you can afford it. A 780 Ti is woefully underpowered for 4k and we have no firm date for either Vega or the 1080 Ti. What if March rolls around and we just get paper launches? Or what if neither launches until Computex at the end of May? I mean that's around when we typically see big gpu launches.

Then again, when it works 1080 SLI should just slaughter Titan X Pascal in 4k performance. 2016 wasn't a very good year for SLI though. For instance, Just Cause 3 never got any multi-gpu support. Anything DX12 other than Ashes and you're out of luck on SLI. You'll have to do some research into the games you want to play and whether they have good SLI support.

Here is a video from Digital Foundry comparing 1080 SLI to Titan X Pascal at 4k

I'd probably just do a few days of research to see how SLI performs on the games I want and in games from the studios I'm most excited to buy upcoming games from. And then buy within a week or so. Everyone says wait, but you're going to enjoy a substandard gaming experience on your new 4k monitor for 3-6 months?

I've done reasearch already and it seems like sli isn't consistent with frame rates. I prefer consistency

Watching benchmarks And reading reviews. The 1080 sli drops a lot more frequently. The 1080 in sli goes around 40-90 fps in gta v and the titan keeps around 55-70

Lol well I would never take benchmarks from that game seriously. But my frames have always been constant. So have one card with less frames or two with more frames. It's always been an easy choice for me though.

More indie games don't. Only a few mainstream don't and if that's what you play then it's an obvious decision. I've never played one that doesnt.

For what is worth he Will have less headaches with the Titan than 1080 in SLI, and buying the Titan will provide him greater lifespan as it'll be better than the 1080ti which might take at least 1 year to release and God knows when nvidia will get into the 1100 gen.

I know that the cost is high but if you can afford why not just go with it, I do feel "happy" about having a Titan under my hood, no regrets, also I have been saving half my salary every month for a while now for I intend to build a killer beast in 2020/2021 and I do intend to go with the current Titan by then.

Like I said, I don't know what headaches people refer to but if it's suits his needs then it will work. Then again he wouldn't be asking, needs to put his cards on the table first.

I don't think any of Just Cause 3, Gears of War 4, Dishonored 2, Batman Arkham Knight, Forza Horizon 3, Hitman support SLI.
