750 EVO vs 850 EVO

Currently I have a m.2 for my C, which somehow is almost full even though it's 256gb, no games so idk why. Anyway, rather than running games in 4k from a HDD, I'd prefer to load some AAA games a tad faster than carrier pigeon.

Is there much real world difference between the 750 and 850? Not going to really use it for anything par gaming, no rendering / recording etc.

Thank's for the help!

James

The 750 Evo unit is more of an entry level unit that uses TLC planar flash where the 850 unit uses the newer 3D VNAND (TLC). If you really hammer your drives with constant writes the 750 evo will bog down during heavy use where the 850 Evo will see very little change.

If your just loading games on it you won't see really any performance difference other than a little bit in load times so in most cases leaving it on a good HDD is fairly standard.

For gaming there should not be. Not notiecable

Why buy an Evo at all? There are many other cheaper SSDs that will perform the same.

So probably best to just go with the 750 and save myself £30 in that case.

Well, if I recall correctly Samsung have something like a 10 year warranty and based of reviews and questions it seems that they do. Which makes the little extra more worth it I think. Plus it's the highest rated SSD ( probably cause well known brand more than actual performance )

I agree with @dizmo, why pay extra for branding if it is just for gaming. Even if you do video/photo redenring work or even CAD work the real world diferrence is not tangible.

With Samsung you pay the branding and some kickass reliability."not saying the others brands aren't reliable".

If you really need fast sdtorage go for an NvME SSD like this

:https://www.amazon.com/Intel-600p-SSDPEKKW512G7X1-Reseller-Single/dp/B01JSJA65C , would be the next step in your build, giving you more than enough storage and at a reasonable price, $170,00.

Careful though you need an M.2 Slot in your MB.

If you don't have one, or the money or you think its overkill, thenh just buy a OCZ Trion 150 or the Vector lines and you yould be more than satisfied.

The Evo line has a 3 year warranty, and a TBW limit based on size. Pretty standard.

It's decent, for sure. Will you notice a difference in read times between that and lower cost ones? No. The only thing that slows down, if at all, are writes. Most SATA drives these days are around the same performance.

As far as reliability, the Evo actually performed the worse in a stress test. It began degrading much faster IIRC.

NVMe isn't worth it for 95% of users. It doesn't load programs any faster.

No don't get the 600p. Once the cache is full it toggles performance from almost standing still to full speed. Every second it switches states.

95% of users don't even know what an SSD is. But for anyone thats into computers with a job/money, I'd recommend NVMe. It is faster

Interesting. The comparison review I saw showed next to no difference between the two. Must have been a mid tier, not an entry level SSD.

Or maybe they were using a slower NVMe drive. The 960 EVO is the second fastest SSD, it feels faster than the 850 I have.

In the end I've actually decided the additional price isn't worth it. Gone with what Dizmo suggested. Instead of £121 for a 750 500GB. I've gone with a Sandisk Ultra II 1tb for £204. ( The 850 Evo of similar price is £285 ) They're basically the same speed, tiny bit slower write speed, but I won't be maxing that out anytime soon.
