how does cpu power can work because my motherboard is a bit iffy on the actual connector as the connector doesn't actually fit and yes it I was putting it in the right way as well as tried other ALL other directions so there is no way I could have missed something like that because no matter what direction it was facing the shapes did not match up

But the power supply comes with an adapter that allows me to plug in a 8 pin cable that adapts to two other 8 pins that I can plug into the motherboard the adapter worka but the motherboard only has one cpu power slot so I'm not sure if it is safe if one side of the cable isnt be used, while the adapter has two extensions instead of one

Before you ask yes the cable says cpu

Motherboard is msi gaming m5 z170a and PSU is evga supernova 650 g2

It CERTAINLY fits, perhaps you weren't trying hard enough when you were trying the right orientation?

No the shapes are wrong I have asked evga for a replacement last week tried that and it doesn't wrong there there is supposed to be a square it is not a square it is the little half rectangle thing if I turn it upside down the shapes are now upside down and they are still in the wrong spot

By that logic what's the point of making this thread then if you know they don't fit and we can't help...

Just post up pictures.

There is a 8 pin connector yes but apparently though according to literally everyone on tomshardware and overclock.net you can get by with a 4 pin

Okay well good luck with that. Have you contacted MSI about it too?

I have looked at other msi m5 motherboards on pcpartpicker same exa t setup

Well either EVGA has the wrong cable or it's user error. Have you tried any other 8 pin connectors?

Could you try showing a pattern or both connectors?

Like does this look like the connector on the mother board

PSU didn't come with any other 8 pin or 6+2 pin cables that match that?

No the cog cable is a single 8 pin to a 4+4

So you don't have that cable I showed? That cable is an 8 pin plus a 4+4 pin that the reviewer says is for the cpu.
