So, my friend came up to me and said, "Hey can you check this PC out? Is it good? Should I change it and whatnot." So I took a look at it and the price was just out of hand. so I said, "I'll build you a cheaper and good PC which is about $2,000 cheaper than the one he made. You can go take a look at his build here https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YMRrpb, you can also see the incompatability message there. Anyways, I built him a PC which I previously said $2,000 cheaper than the one he made. So I'll just lift off the parts for the one I built.

Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler

Asus ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO ALPHA ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 Memory

Samsung 960 Pro 1.0TB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive

Western Digital BLACK SERIES 4TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GAMING Z Video Card

NZXT Phantom ATX Full Tower Case

EVGA SuperNOVA P2 1200W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit

Thermaltake CL-F025-PL20RE-A 129.6 CFM 200mm Fan

Total: $2,896

Edit: He wanted the computer the instant I showed him it. He said if he wanted to upgrade something or if I have some suggestions for him, we'll just let each other know. Oh and he wanted to do projects and record for YouTube and stuff like that.

Well what are you going to do with this PC? Both your friends and even your build are fairly overkill for a ton of stuff, I don't think you'd need this much storage room nor all the ram or the ram frequency for the matter if this is to become a gaming rig, but if for heavy workloads with large files, professional creation; then sure... it's a pretty nice one I'd just take the i7 7700k and the equivalent 7th gen board for it instead if you're considering buying a pc like this from scratch.

You could save him quite a bit of money by getting a

650w EVGA G3/GS

A much cheaper motherboard like the AsRock Extreme4

A Sexier case such as the S340 Elite, Phanteks P400s or P400s TG edition which comes out in 11 days

Get the Gaming X 1080

This alone will save him close to $300 or more

Plus... does he REALLY need a 1TB 960 Pro? I mean.. ya it is fast but why not just get a 1TB sata drive for $400 less? Plus does he NEED 32GBs of RAM? Most programs and in most scenarios you won't find yourself going above 16GBs.

Well he'll be doing most of those things that you said. And it's kinda already too late, he wanted the PC the instant I sent the link to him.

If he has enough money to burn on a computer like that and is in too much of a hurry to even try making the best possible deal for his buck (or for the matter a better deal at all), then what is the point of even asking about guidelines hehe... It is a shame though, many brands profit from people like that who won't afford learning deeper about each pc part in order to make a more reasonable choice.

cheers

Yeah, he's really impatient. But I just wanted to know, maybe I might wanna build it some day :P But I'll edit some stuff to it, as the new stuff come out. (And when I'm no longer "poor")

The Phantom lineup from NZXT is not that good. Black goes well with red and is a nice offset

He's also gonna be doing YouTube and Streaming.

6700k, maximus hero VIII. corsair LPX memory 2x16 red memory in whatever speed you want, won't really affect the performance, but 3200MHZ is ideal if you want it(Chosen because it can fit under large CPU heatsinks without clearance issues).

CPU cooler: Cooler Master V8 GTS or Masterair Maker 8 (both massive air coolers that are largely black/red and are some of the best cooling available)

GPU: MSI 1080

PSU: AX760i

Your choice of case as there are a great many black/red themed cases out there. Your storage options are fine if you're interested in best of the best material and don't mind the pricetag (the 960 evo M.2 is much cheaper and only slightly slower than the 960 pro, same with a WD blue drive instead of a black drive)

enjoy!

With how close 7700k is to becomming mainstream, I would recommend waiting for that.... but if he REALLY needs it right the hell now, then the build is fine.

It's not to late to cancel then. Save him the $130 by getting a different PSU and save him the trouble of having an ugly PC.
