i3 7320 or i5 7600?

building my first PC. i have done alot of research and come up with these two choices.

What i have:

DIYPC Gamestorm-bk case

ROG maximus viii hero MOBO (killer deal @ $150)

1 x 16gb 3200mhz corsair ram (borrowed, i have good friends lol)

intel 600p m.2 128gb boot drive

500gb 2.5" 7200rpm hdd

NO discrete gpu yet (thinking 1050 ti or 1060)

What i plan to do with this pc:

Mainly gta v online ( @720p or 1080p, my tv sucks lol)

Fallout 4

some racing games, possibly forza?

word processing

photoshop

i know most of what i want to do isnt very intensive, but id rather overkill it than not have enough.

so will this i3 bottleneck me or can i stay on the cheaper side and still be ok?

any input is appreciated.

Thanks, Matt

You may want to get an i5, just because even though most games will run alright on an i3, because it's not a true quad core games won't perform as well, and CPU demanding games won't run well. i5 is a great "just game" platform.

id pay the bit extra for the i5. it will be worth it bc if you want to upgrade in a bit the gpu you wont really have to worry about the cpu at all

Get an i5-6500, it's guaranteed to be cheaper and offer the same performance

if you can find a deal on the 6500 or the 6600k the mobo will be cheaper and with some slight oc for the 6600k you have a 7600k the only thing that is different is the clock speed

Thanks to all who replied. looks like I'm going with the i5. probably a 7600k as the price is so close to the 6600k.

as far as a monitor I'm getting a 4k tv sooner or later as this pc will reside in the living room anyway.

especially being that my only desk is being used for my wifes computer.

No, it won't. It's been a long time since I've seen this level of misinformation.

I'll watch your video. But every other source confirms kaby lake doesn't have IPC gains, only slightly higher clocks.

I did not recommend a higher clocked i5-6600 in the past because it was too expensive for just a clockspeed gain, I will continue to do so with the refresh processors. If the i5-7600 was the same price as the i5-6500, then sure.

No IPC changes with the 7700k and 6700k at the same clock speed. In Cinebench.

The 7600 is clocked higher than the 6500. The 7600 also has all the improvements we're just learning about. People went off the reviews that were all rushed to be first.

It's clocked 300MHz higher. That doesn't justify the pricing markup. What other features are there? Just support for Optane which hasn't even released and better decoding for H.265. Those are not worth $35 more today.

Don't get me wrong, the day a Kaby Lake i5 costs the same or less than its Skylake counterpart, I will give people it. Today is not that day.

Bro, and I say that lovingly. 35 bucks is dinner. And for that you get a much stronger CPU. Right now we know Kabylake is slightly faster, but look back when Skylake launched. People were telling people to buy Haswell, just like now they're saying to buy Skylake. Could be that 35 bucks just gets you the latest box, could be later on that H.265 and added lanes means something. Either way you spend the 35 bucks.

I would rather invite my date to dinner :D

The only i5 I'm liking from Kaby is the 7500 because it's square $200 instead of $225. That's still enough for me to put aside the rest and take my date to dinner lol

The unlocked i3 looks cool. With only 2 cores I bet we see mid 5GHz numbers.

You should get on this. Apparently the Kaby Lake pentiums show up as having HT on ark.intel.com

If that is so, that is actually something to be excited about. $70 i3s!

Already have a cart with a 7700k. Just have to work up the courage. Was going with a 6850k until I saw the 7700k match a 6800k.

I think for anyone who doesn't want to get up to 5GHz the 7700K is just wasted potential
